Binding Finishing Options

Perfect Binding (EVA and PUR)

Also known as adhesive binding

Perfect binding is preferred for books, manuals, and thicker documents. Perfect binding uses adhesive to bind the pages and cover together. EVA adhesive offers water resistance and is suitable for most paper stocks, while PUR is the most durable and flexible option and is ideal for gloss-coated papers. Kase Printing provides you with both options.

Saddle Stitch Binding

Also known as stapled binding

Saddle stitching is a classic binding method that gives your books a professional look and feel. Saddle stitching involves folding the pages and stapling them along the spine, also known as the saddle. It is commonly used for booklets, catalogs, and other multi-page documents. High-quality saddle stitching should have evenly spaced staples, proper alignment, and the ability to accommodate various paper stocks for the cover and interior pages.

When you choose saddle-stitch booklet printing, you gain access to:

Best Technique for Achieving High-Quality Finishing

Cutting, Scoring, and Creasing

Precision is key in print finishing. Our guillotine cutting, rotary scoring, and creasing services ensure your materials have clean, professional edges and folds.

Following the offset or digital printing process, many materials need to be guillotine cut to what is called a final trim size. These sheets may also need to be fed through a rotary scoring machine, a blunt blade creasing machine, or be fed through a die-cutting machine for any of these processes to be completed.

Our Range of Finishing Techniques

Film Laminate

Protect and enhance your print projects with our lamination services:

One of the best ways to protect the cover of your project from wear and tear is to apply a thin layer of film lamination to the outer cover or panel. Lamination provides a protective coating and improves the sturdiness, scratch, scuff, and tear resistance as well as improves the water resistance of the finished product.

Film Laminate is available in the following finishes

Standard Gloss Lamination

For a flashy, attention-grabbing look
This finish improves the tactile feel of the printed surface and improves the sharpness of the printed image. Gloss is ideal for all types of print products seeking that flashy look and feel.

Standard Matte Lamination

Offers a subdued, elegant finish
This finish also improves the tactile feel of the printed surface and is ideal for all types of print products seeking a more subdued, more muted, yet elegant look and luxurious finish.

Soft Touch Finish Matte (Velvet Lamination)

Provides a velvety feel with superior scratch resistance
This finish functions like the standard matte finish but also improves the tactile feel of the printed surface while offering superior scratch and scuff resistance plus the lamination offers a very velvety feel.

Embossing and Debossing

This type of finishing technique allows your printed product to stand out as it creates a 3-D appearance wherever it is used. A die is created, similar to the often high-expense component of building a foil stamping die.

Then, the item is either embossed, in which the embossing die produces a raised area on the surface, versus when the piece is debossed, in which the debossing die produces an indented area on the surface of the printed piece.

This technique produces the best quality product when applied to offset printed pieces. It is very commonly found on presentation pocket folders, on covers of magazines, and covers of soft cover paperback books.

Create a 3D effect that literally makes your print stand out!

Spot UV

The finishing technique of applying Spot UV, often referred to as a “Spot UV Hit”, is similar to the press varnishes and aqueous coatings mentioned earlier. However, it is tougher and is applied only in certain spots of a printed piece and then hardened or cured when exposed to UV light. This technique, which can be applied to either offset or digital printed pieces, is very commonly found on presentation pocket folders and covers of magazines and covers of soft cover paperback books.

Add a touch of luxury with Spot UV, perfect for:

  • Presentation folders
  • Magazine covers
  • Paperback book covers

Foil Stamping

This type of finishing technique makes your printed products more decorative and adds that little bit of pop, flare, and luxury to your print project. While foil stamping produces an elegant result, it is most suitable for higher print quantity projects where the often high expense component of creating the foil stamping die can be amortized over the higher print quantity. This technique, which can be applied to either offset or digital printed pieces, is very commonly found on presentation pocket folders and on covers of magazines and covers of soft cover paperback books.

Make your print products pop with decorative foil-stamping, ideal for:

  • High-quantity projects
  • Presentation folders
  • Magazine and book covers

Varnishing and Aqueous Coating

Modern inline offset printing press coating application techniques at Kase Printing allow for the use of either or both offset press varnishes as well as offset press water-based coatings applied overall to the entire press sheet. These liquid-based coatings can also be applied in a spot fashion, highlighting text and images, giving your magazine or brochure project that modern, sleek touch that it deserves. These coatings also ensure the inks printed on the press sheet are protected from future scratches and abrasions, and so they are like but not as protective as film lamination.

Our inline offset printing press allows for versatile coating applications:

  • Gloss, Satin, Dull, Matte, and Soft Touch finishes available
  • Can be applied overall or in specific areas for highlighting
