A booklet that is constructed of folded sheets gathered with staples along the spine with staples that are visible upon opening the center of the book

It is rumored that back in history, with its construction being of pages folded in half with staples applied along the spine, it reminded people of a horse’s saddle.

The number of pages that can be saddle-stitched is dependent on the paper being used and the page count being divisible by 4.

The number of pages that can be saddle-stitched is dependent on the paper being used and the page count being divisible by 4.

Usually no more than 80 pages

The common page counts for saddle binding are between 8pgs to 80pgs.

A saddle booklet needs to be divisible in 4 because each sheet in the book (leaf) contains 4 pages.

We are flexible with the dimensions that you would like to use, allowing your product to be fully customizable.

A booklet is considered a self-cover when both the text and designed cover paper is the same.

A saddle booklet is not an expensive option.

In cases, with page counts above 80 pages, the perfect bind option will tend to be a lower cost than the saddle stitch option.

A saddle-bound booklet will tend to bulk up more along the spine side of the booklet, disallowing a nice stack when presenting many copies together.

There is a place for both in the industry, use of the book may very well dictate which option is best.

Yes, a saddle booklet will lay relatively flat, especially when compared to a perfect bound book.

Yes, you can.  This is known as a “plus cover” saddle stitched booklet.

Most booklets are 2 stitches. However, in larger-sized booklets - in size or thickness, you may choose 3 staples or stitches.

A paper’s weight and finish will increase or decrease the weight and feel of the finished product.

Your page arrangement for the text file is no different than building a file for a perfect bind book, we handle the imposition of the final text build and adjust for what is called page creep. The difference is on the build of the cover, since there is no spine, no additional print area will need to be built into the flat side of the cover.

Reviewing your saddle booklet proof you should look for the pagination, trim size, image quality, font substitutions, trim area, margins, and proximity of the outside margins on the inner leaves after the final trim
